It is with sadness and deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Fred Primo Serafini, 86, of Kensington, on Friday November 26, 2010, peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family. Fred was born on March 14, 1924 in New Britain to the late Primo and Antoinette (Pisani) Serafini, attended local schools and was a lifelong resident. He was a veteran of the US Navy, proudly serving his country in WWII. After the war, Fred was a highly recognized softball pitcher, who was inducted into the Connecticut Softball Hall of Fame as well as recipient of the New Britain VFW Man of the Year award. He was also proud to have been a member of the American Legion. Fred was self-employed for many years, later managing several properties in New Britain. He was a communicant of St. John the Evangelist Church and was actively involved in the men's club. Fred proudly served on the New Britain Town Committee representing many New Britain families in need. Fred loved "fixing things", helping others, duckpin bowling, the casino, country music, his July 4th picnic and the Connecticut shoreline. Fred is survived by his beloved wife Barbara of 56 years and son Robert of Kensington, with whom he made his home. He is also survived by his son Fred and his wife Melina and beloved granddaughter Allegra of Cheshire. He also leaves his sister Lee Rudnick of Farmington, sister Dora Crowe of New Britain and sister and brother-in-law Mary and Francis Gobar of New Britain. Left to mourn are several nieces and nephews who loved Fred dearly. Considered a softball legend, Fred was a life legend who will be missed by all who loved him. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 9:00 AM at the Farrell Funeral Home, 110 Franklin Sq., New Britain with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM at St. John the Evangelist Church, corner of East St. and Newington Ave. Burial with full military honors will follow in St. Mary Cemetery, New Britain.
