Obituary of Benedict Geraci

Benedict Geraci, Sr. 95, of Palm Springs, CA and formerly of New Britain died August 27, 2010. He was the widower of Constance M. (Ciarcia) Geraci and more recently, Eleanor Foley Geraci. Born in Italy, March 2, 1915, he was a son of the late Guiseppi B. and Salvatrice (DiMauro) Geraci. Mr. Geraci was the owner of Universal Poultry Markets originating on Broad Street in New Britain. He also worked for the City of New Britain as a sidewalk inspector, Constable/Sheriff as well as the Water Department. His achievements included being a Fourth Degree member of the Knights of Columbus, past president of the Unico Club and the General Ameglio Society, as well as a member of the Lions Club. He was also a candidate for State Congress under the Eisenhower ticket in 1958. Mr. Geraci is survived by his five sons, Dr. Joseph Geraci (Connie) of New London, CT, Ben Geraci, Jr. (Carol) of Cathedral City, CA, Gerald Geraci of New Britain, CT, Gene Geraci (Susan) of Rancho Mirage, CA, and Dan Geraci (Paulina) of Westwood, MA; his brothers, Louie Geraci (Lynne) and Joseph Gerace (Frances), all of Florida; he is also survived by nine grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren and one great great granddaughter. Mr. Geraci was also a stepfather to Mark Foley (Lisa) of Plantsville, CT, Kathy Kukowski (Gary) of Southington, CT and Paul Foley (Lori) of Plantsville, CT. He was predeceased by his sister, Mary Jiantonio. Funeral services will be held on Friday at 9:00 AM at the Farrell Funeral Home, 110 Franklin Sq, New Britain with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM at St. Ann's Church, New Britain. Burial will follow in St. Mary Cemetery, New Britain. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday evening from 4:00 to 7:00 PM.
