PETER SLATER -- passed away on Oct. 20 due to complications from COPD, an illness he long endured. He was a friendly, lovable guy who enjoyed listening to people's stories, who held a caring spirit for all things, and who nurtured an inspired appetite for each day. He was born in Fall River, Mass in 1950.
Throughout his life, he adored and cherished his parents, Marilyn who survives him, and Dr. Gregory Slater who predeceased him. He attended local public and private schools. Peter completed service in the U.S. Marine Corp in 1973, an accomplishment that he proudly wore during his life. Later, he worked as a seaman during the Desert Storm Operation for the U.S. Merchant Marine. He pursued many vocations, but late in life, he returned to pursue his education at Manchester Community College, completing the requirements towards an undergraduate degree.
During his illness the Hospital for Special Care became an important part of his daily life that sustained his spirits, and he treasured the personal relationships that he formed there.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his brothers, Jon, Tim, and Greg, his niece, Lauren, and many cousins and friends.
A memorial service for Peter will be held on Nov.11 at 11 AM in the chapel of the South Congregational Church at 90 Main St, New Britain. To send a condolence, please visit www.FarrellFuneralHome.com.
