Edmund F. Plourde, 72, passed away Tuesday Dec. 30, 2008, after a short illness. Born April 2, 1936, in Wallagrass, Maine, he was the son of the late Fred and Anna (Beaulieu) Plourde. He came to New Britain in 1962 and moved to Newington in 1987.
He is survived by his wife, Marie (Levesque) Plourde, his son, Bruce and his wife Janice; his daughter Brenda Plourde and partner Julie Mercado; daughter Tina Palmese and her husband Mark; son Dana Edmund Plourde; eight grandchildren, Joseph Edmund Plourde, Cody Plourde, Amy (Plourde) Damboise and her husband Justin; Danielle Lamont, Matthew Lamont and partner Carmen Olivo , Chase Lamont, Mark Palmese, Jr. and Amanda Palmese; two great grandchildren Nathalia and Gaige Lamont.
He was predeceased by his two brothers Norman and Louis Plourde, and one sister, Jacqueline Lajoie.
He is also survived by three sisters Theresa Voisine, Mary Oakes and Bernadette Rodrigue and her husband John; three brothers Wilfrid and his wife Joan, Leopaul and his wife Dora and Elmer Plourde.
Edmund left Maine in 1962 where he started his career with Stanley Works and was a committed and loyal employee of 34 years. He also worked part time as a mechanic at Schaller Oldsmobile for 10 years. He was an avid Boston Red Sox Fan and a race car enthusiast. Edmund was a devoted family man, married to Marie (Levesque) for 50 years.
Since 1974 he was a leader and active member of the St. Jean the Baptist Society volunteering his service in countless ways. He was honored as man of the year for St. Jean's in 2003. He served as president of St. Jean's in 2006/2007 and was most recently treasurer.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 9:00 AM from the Farrell Funeral Home, 110 Franklin Sq., New Britain with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM at St. Peter Church. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery, New Britain. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 4-8 PM.
