I first met Pete when he was newly married to my cousin Susan. I was very young, but he saw that I was athletic and he told me about his love of soccer (football in Europe) and his experiences playing the sport. He was an easy converstionalist especially when talking about his Corvette from the mid-60's. It was one of the most slick cars I had ever seen at my young age. Perhaps on some subliminal level it was a motivator for my purchase of a Jaguar XJ6 when I was deployed in England with the USAF after college. We really only connected at various family functions, but invariably were able to pick up where we left off conversationally though years may have intervened.
