Obituary of Mary K. Funari

Mary K. Funari, 64, of Farmington, died Tuesday (Sept. 5, 2023) at home. Born in Hartford, the daughter of the late Henry J. and Katherine (Wiecek) Funari, she was raised in New Britain and graduated from Pulaski High School. Mary was employed as a bookkeeper for the City of New Britain and the State of Connecticut Health Department, prior to her retirement. While at the City of New Britain she rose through the union ranks to become the first female president of Afscme local 1186, a position she served with honor and distinction.

Her love of the ocean, especially Cape Cop and the Rhode Island shore was her happy place, with many fond memories.

Mary is survived by two brothers, Michael and his wife, Helen Funari of PA and Henry and his wife, Christine Funari of FL. She is also survived by her special nieces and nephews, Ashley, Justin, Matthew, Brandon and Amanda. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her sister, Lisa Funari Lamb.

A Prayer Service will be held Friday (Sept. 29, 2023) at 10:00 AM at the Farrell Funeral Home 110 Franklin Sq. New Britain. Burial will be private.
