We were so blessed to live next door to Maria and Antonio. I have so many great childhood memories due to their kindness and affection.
For many years we rented a cottage at the beach: Maria/Antonio, Joey/Nieves, Enrique/Maria, my parents. The children were there and other families would come and go. It was a paradise and sometimes wall to wall people. The men fished and the women cooked and we all enjoyed being together.
I never heard either of them raise their voices or argue. Their love was a fairy tale story. They were role models that I looked up to. They taught me so much.
Maria would make Madalenas at the drop of a hat. OH! They were so good. I can smell them now, just talking about them. She would give me my own bag to bring home. I would freeze them and when I needed a pick me up, I would put one Madalena on my counter and remind myself to be grateful to have her in my life.
She taught us how to go crabbing and it brought her so much joy to see us so happy. On the days we went to Rocky Neck, she and Antonio would be at the beach first to save a table under a tree. These are just a few of the memories out of a million.
Her great light inspired me with her beauty and love. She cared, she loved, she laughed. She was thoughtful, gentile and kind. She was a big influence in my life and a very special loving person. Her light will remain forever
