Obituary of Irene M. Cosgrove

OBITUARIES Irene (Miklos) Cosgrove, 89, of New Britain, died early Wednesday morning at the Jerome Home. She was the beloved wife of Warren Ottarson Cosgrove. A lifelong resident of New Britain, she attended local schools and graduated from New Britain High School before earning her State of Connecticut Opticians license, being the first woman in Connecticut to do so. She worked as an optician for many years, first owning Gaysons Optical store in New Britain, and finally retiring from Genovese's Optical Department in Southington, CT in 1984. Irene is survived by her children; Samuel L. Cosgrove and wife Holly of Chiefland, FL, Angela (Gigi) Cornwell and husband John of Huntington, NY, David J. Cosgrove and wife Martha of Higganum, CT, Hilary R. Adams of Pagosa Springs, Colorado; ten grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; and her sister Clara Aukshunas. She was predeceased by her dear sisters; Hedwig Masoero, Florence Majewski, and brother Joseph Miklos. Friends and family are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial, Tuesday (Feb. 22, 2011) at 10:00 A.M. at the St. Maurice Church, 100 Wightman Road, New Britain. Burial will be private. The family would like to extend a special thank-you to the staff of the Jerome Home for the care and compassion that was extended to Irene.
