Obituary of Thomas J. McMahon

Thomas J. McMahon, 72, of Canton, died Friday at St. Francis Hospital in Hartford. Born and raised in New Britain, he moved to Canton in 2000. He graduated from New Britain High School in 1955 and was later employed at Mott Metallurgical Corp in Plainville for many years before retiring in 2000. He served his country in the U.S. Army, and was an avid runner, having competed in numerous marathons and triathlons. Tom was a devoted and beloved son, husband, father and grandfather. He was an avid and proud supporter of his grandchildren's academic and athletic pursuits. Tom is survived by his wife, Phyllis J. (Swentusky) McMahon, son Keith Thomas McMahon, daughter Karen Lee O'Flaherty and son-in-law Daniel O'Flaherty, daughter Colleen Mary Ella Grenier; eight grandchildren Brian, Timothy and Devin McMahon; Daniel and Shawn O'Flaherty; Meghan, Zachary and Hannah Grenier. He also leaves his 100 year old mother Mary McMahon residing at the Jerome Home; his brother Francis and his wife Bonnie McMahon, his sisters Mary and her husband Ronald Banak and Patricia Russell and Eudo Blanchette and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Tuesday with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 A.M. at St. Joseph's Church 195 So. Main St. New Britain. Burial will follow in St. Mary Cemetery, New Britain. Visitation will be Tuesday from 10:00 to 11:00 A.M. at the Farrell Funeral Home 110 Franklin Square New Britain. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Dana Farber Cancer Institute 44 Binney St. Boston, MA 02115-6084.
