Obituary of Paolina Amenta
Please share a memory of Paolina to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Paolina (LaRosa) Amenta, 90, of New Britain died Sunday March 7, 2010 at the Hospital of Central Connecticut at New Britain General. She now joins her beloved husband Paul C. Amenta, with whom she shared 50 years of marriage before his passing in 1999. Paolina was born March 13, 1919, in Solarino, Provincia de Siracusa, Sicily, daughter of Giuseppe and Concetta (Gibilisco) LaRosa.
Paolina came to the US in May 1958 with her son, Sebastian, to reunite with her husband Paul and make a new life in the United States. They settled in New Britain, where she resided until her death. She became a naturalized citizen in 1970 and worked as a seamstress for many years before retiring in 1984. She was an active member of St. Ann's Church, the Sacred Heart Society, and the General Ameglio Society. She loved gardening, and loved to cook for her family and friends. No one ever left her house hungry, and her legendary sauce will be missed by all.
She leaves her son and daughter-in-law, Sebastian and Gloria Amenta of Southington, her grandchildren Robert and David, who were especially dear to her, a brother, Angelo LaRosa and his wife Rosa of Florida, brothers Santo, Paul and his wife Anna, Guiseppe and his wife Guiseppina all of Solarino, Italy, and many nieces and nephews in the US and Sicily. She was predeceased by a son, Joseph Salvatore Amenta in 1959.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Connecticut Community Care and the VNA for the care they provided for her over the last several years.
