Frank M. Medon Jr. of New Britain passed away on Friday, March 5, 2010 surrounded by his family. He was born the sixth of seven children on August 17,1922 in Wilkes Barre, Pa. to Margaret (Musial) and Frank Medon Sr. He graduated from James Coughlin High School in 1940. He served his country in the United States Army Medical Corp, stateside from 1942-1946. He has resided in New Britain since 1946, retiring after 35 years as a foreman from the Fafnir Bearing Company in 1985. He remained active with the Fafnir Seniors for many years. He also enjoyed the outdoors and the many friends he made at his summer cottage at West Hill Lake in New Hartford. He was pre-deceased by his siblings; Frances, Anna, Helen, Theodore and Joseph and a son-in-law, Jon Whitaker. He is survived by his wife of 57 years Mary (Cubeddu), his sister Mary Ann Elias of Pa., three daughters and a son-in-law; Laura Whitaker and Melanie Rago of Newington, Lisa Vanty and her husband Thomas of Berlin and 3 grandchildren; Matthew and Brian Rago (their "Gramps") and Haley Vanty (her "Pop-pops"). He leaves several in-laws and numerous nieces, nephews, godchildren and their families as well as many good friends. Frank always knew the value of hard work and instilled this concept in his daughters, whom he was very proud of. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 10:00 AM at the Farrell Funeral Home, 110 Franklin Sq. New Britain with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM at St. Joseph Church. Burial with full military honors will follow in Rose Hill Memorial Park, Rocky Hill. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday evening from 4:00 to 7:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, Connecticut Chapter, 279 New Britain Rd, Suite 5, Kensington, CT 06037.
