The McClean Family remembers all the Liegeots with great warmth and affection. The first time I drove stick shift, I got stuck our front of your cottage at Lake Hayward and "Young" Rene came out and tutored me in the fine art of the delicate brake/clutch balance. How my parents looked forward to the company of your parents....Betty's warmth and graciousness and Big Rene's basso profundo opinions on all things great and small. Lake Hayward was a special time and place and the Liegeot Family is an intregal part of those memories. We are so sorry for your loss. You are in our thoughts and prayers. Mary Ann(McClean)O'Sullivan

How sad to hear of Rene's passing. Although not shocking, I am truly saddeded to hear about losing Rene. My early memories of Rene is through the eyes of a very small child (my parents absolutely LOVED Rene & Maureen's company). But, Rene made such an impression on me because thru my small eyes there was nothing this man couldn't do, even with his obvious handicap. It was clear that in Rene's mind, that there was no handicap; Rene made an impression on me that I always remembered. It brings such a smile to remember him in my parent's house in Portland, at Higgins Beach, at the wedding in CT (I forget even who's wedding it was--sorry!), and the last time I saw Rene at my dad's funeral. I can recall as if it was yesterday that Rene walked right up to me at the gravesite to say that " I always respected Doug because he questioned everything". It was such a warm gesture on Rene's part, I loved him immediately for that. He hugged me with that big bear arm of his and I melted, sobbing into his chest. Some things you never forget, and I will never forget Rene and what he meant to me and my family. Rene was a remarkable person and I consider myself so lucky to have known him. Thanks, Rene. All my love to Maureen, Lisa, Jana, Maura, Adam and all the family. --Steve Strand--

There are few people I can think of looking back over the course of my life who could match Rene Liegeot, in terms of having such a strong combination of intelligence, knowledge and wisdom as he possessed. For someone who enjoys intelligent discourse such as I do, you just could not do any better than Rene. When I first met Rene about 25 years ago, I'll never forget his discussing with me the skills that would be most valued in the legal career I had chosen. As a young, cocky attorney, there was little anyone could tell me about my future career, which I had already mapped out - much less someone who was not in the field himself. As always, it was a pleasure hearing Rene's point of view though, especially when we disagreed as we did on that occasion, because sparring with him was always a unique and interesting challenge. I recall being amused that he believed his understanding of how things worked would apply to a hotshot such as me, but I think he was more amused over my thinking that the lesson he was offering up did not apply to me. It then did not take long for me to learn the hard way how right he was and how wrong I had been. When I later told this story to one of Rene's classmates at Yale, then a highly accomplished and esteemed member of the Connecticut Bar, he took a sip on his drink and told me not to feel too bad about being on the wrong side of a discussion with Rene Liegeot - that Rene had run circles around him and most of his classmates back at Yale, so I was in good company. I met Rene through his daughter Lisa, who began her legal career at the same time and with the same firm as myself. Being from out of state, I was invited into the Liegeot home on numerous holidays and other occasions, where I very much enjoyed their gracious hospitality. It was easy to tell how proud Rene was of his entire family, all brimming with talent and charm. I still entrust my own legal affairs to Lisa, and we had just been talking recently about my getting together with her family and I was so looking forward to hearing Rene's latest take on the happenings in the world when the sad news came. My prayers go out to the Liegeot family and condolences to all who knew Rene and grieve his passing.

Goodby Rene: We had a lot of fun growing up as youngsters, also played a lot of cards, you, me, your father and Laurie Fredricks. You were also an usher at my wedding. Looking very dapper in your tux. As the years went by we drifted apart but I.ve never forgotten you. Gil Peterson, Newington, Ct.

I never had the honor of meeting Rene, but I know from the stories shared by Lisa and Jana - and their kids - that he had an amazing intellect and was adored by his family. Emili and Jay were very sad to hear of Rene's passing as well, having heard the wonderful stories of him from Brynn and Dan. Hugs to you all.
