Robert "Bob" G. Scarlett, 66, of Plainville passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday July 19, 2016. Robert was born February 18, 1950 in New Britain, Connecticut. He was son of the late Deputy Fire Chief George Scarlett Jr. and Rose (Pavano) Scarlett. Robert graduated from New Britain High in 1968 and continued his education on a football scholarship to the University of Connecticut. He was happily married to his wife Mary (Trudel) Scarlett for 33 years. He joined the New Britain Fire Department in 1984 retiring after 31 years of service. Robert continued a long standing family tradition of service to the city of New Britain with both his father and grandfather serving before him. New Britain Fire Department has had a Scarlett on the force for 111 years. His father was a Deputy Chief and his grandfather was Chief. Robert also served 18 years of service to the IAFF Local 992 N.B.F. Union both on the board and as Vice President. Bob was a devoted husband, loving father, grandpa, brother and friend. If you knew Bob, you knew how much he loved a good book and going fishing with his friends. He also enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and relaxing at the beach. In his spare time he painted houses.
In addition to his wife of 33 years, Robert is survived by his two children, son Michael Scarlett and girlfriend Michelle Bouyea, daughter Andrea (Scarlett) Cyrulik and husband Tony Cyrulik Jr. Three grandchildren Julianna Scarlett, Tony Cyrulik III and Patrick Cyrulik. He is also survived by his brother Frank Scarlett and wife Joyce of Old Saybrook, along with a large extended family. He is predeceased by his two sisters Cynthia and Margaret.
Friends and family are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial Tuesday (July 26, 2016) at 10:00 AM at St. Joseph Church 195 So. Main St. New Britain. Burial will be held privately. Visitation will be held Monday from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at the Farrell Funeral Home 110 Franklin Sq. New Britain.
