Joseph J. Orzel, 89 of New Britain and Old Lyme, died Friday morning in Old Lyme. Born and raised in New Britain, he was a World War II U.S. Army Veteran. In 1961 he founded the Composite Machine and Tool Company in New Britain and retired in 2000. He was a member of Sacred Heart Church, where in his younger days he was involved with many church activities including the annual carnival and he was a member of the New Britain Lodge of Elks No. 957. Joe is survived by his wife Helen (Rzasinski) Orzel, two sons, Paul and his wife Christine Orzel of West Simsbury, Philip and his wife Margaret Orzel of Southington; three grandchildren Christopher and his wife Amy Orzel of Jupiter, FL, Justine and her husband Matthew Monahan of Quincy, MA and Catherine Orzel of Glastonbury; a nephew John Osipa of New Britain, a niece Dolores Dobrzynski of Wethersfield; several grand nieces and grandnephews. He was predeceased by three sisters Mary Osipa, Veronica Dobzynski and Joan Dabkowski. Funeral services will be held Monday with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 A.M. at Sacred Heart Church 158 Broad St. New Britain. Burial will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery, New Britain. Visitation will be Monday from 8:00 A.M. until the time of the Mass at the Farrell Funeral Home 110 Franklin Sq. New Britain. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Sound View Beach Association c/o Dennis Melluzzo, President, 1 Hartford Ave. Old Lyme, CT 06371 or to Sacred Heart Church Stair Fund 158 Broad St. New Britain, CT 06051.
