Anton "Tony" Zavez, 86, of New Britain, died Wednesday at the Hospital of Central Connecticut in New Britain, Born in Kalch, Burgenland, Austria, he came to America in 1955. He was employed as a tailor at Sears for over twenty years. His true passion was being a musician and along with his sister, he played the violin and the accordion in their group "Tony and Lil". They were well known playing for many years at the East Side Restaurant in New Britain, the Hartford Liederkranz and the Donau Club in New Britain. Tony was a member of St. Peter Church, a fifty year member of the St. Peter's Society of the Church, a member of the Austrian Singing Society, the Donau Club, the Liederkranz of Hartford and the A.A.R.P. Tony is survived by two sons Gerald and his wife Deborah Zavecz of West Caldwell, NJ, Bernhard and his wife Barbara Zavecz of Springfield, MA five grandchildren Bernie, Kimberly, Nicole, Melissa, and Stephanie Zavecz, his sister Lillian Kardok of New Britain, a brother John Zavez of Hampton, New Hampshire; and several great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Monday with a Mass of Christian Burial at 1:00 P.M. at St. Peter Church. Burial will follow in St. Mary Cemetery, New Britain. Visitation will be Monday from 11:00 A.M. until the time of the Mass at the Farrell Funeral Home 110 Franklin Sq. New Britain. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Peter Church 98 Franklin Sq. New Britain, CT 06051. Members of the St. Peter Society will meet Monday at 11:30 A.M. at the funeral home for a prayer service.
