Carl "Buzz" Peters, 82, of New Britain, husband of 25 years to Amy Silverio Peters, passed away unexpectedly on April 13th, 2016. He was born on July 3rd, 1933 in Hartford CT and was the son of the late Carl Peters and Eleanor Donovan Peters of Willimantic. He was predeceased by his sisters Patricia Peters, Nancy Kennedy, and Carol Phaneuf. He was the loving father of Patricia Peters Herrera and husband George of Escondido CA, Michael Peters of Brooklyn NY, and Kelly Peters Daly and husband Joseph of West Simsbury CT. He was the proud grandfather of Kellen and Kyle Herrera, Luke Peters, Matt and Drew Daly, and great grandfather to Cloie, Brooke, and Blake Herrera. He also leaves many nieces and nephews.
Buzz grew up in Willimantic and graduated from Windham High School and The University of Connecticut. During his time at UConn he worked as the manager of the Willimantic Dairy Queen. In 1955 he took a pay cut to start his 35 year career at the Phoenix Mutual Life Insurance Company. He became a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries and moved into Reinsurance Sales in 1978. It was there that he had the most successful and enjoyable years of his career retiring as a Vice President.
Buzz was an early member of the UConn Booster Club and held season tickets to the men's and women's basketball program for over 60 years. In the 60's and 70's he coached Wethersfield youth football and baseball. He was an active member in Willimantic Roy's Boys organization and looked forward to their monthly breakfast meetings. He had a lifelong love of the St Louis Cardinals and was always ready to talk Cardinal baseball.
Buzz lived life to the fullest. Throughout his retirement, he continued to stay active playing golf and working out regularly with his wonderful trainers at The Hospital for Special Care. His wry humor, great smile, and that glint in his eye will be remembered and missed by everyone.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday (April 19th) at 10 AM from Farrell Funeral Home 110 Franklin Sr. New Britain with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM at St. Francis of Assisi Church 1755 Stanley St. New Britain. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery. Visitation will be held Monday (April 18th) from 4:00 - 7:00 PM at the funeral home.
