William J. Knapsack, 84, of Kensington, CT, beloved husband of 61 years, of Molly (Lugli) Knapsack, died Wednesday January 27, 2016, peacefully with his family by his side. William was born on June 20, 1931 in Fairlawn, NJ, son of the late William and Annie Knapsack. He graduated from Fairlawn High School in 1948 and Stevens Institute of Technology in 1952, where he received a degree in Mechanical and Metallurgical Engineering. He was recruited by Fafnir Bearing Co. where he worked for 45 years. Bill was an excellent athlete and was captain of his high school and college basketball team and also played on his school's baseball team. Bill was an avid St. Louis Cardinal and UCONN Women's basketball fan. He loved doing Sudoko Puzzles and reading the sports page from cover to cover. Growing up, Bill spent many hours at the Boy's Club in Fairlawn where he gained his love of sports. When his sons played baseball, Bill became a Little League Coach and was an avid follower of Berlin High Sports. Bill was a member of the Timberlain Men's Club and enjoyed his weekly golf outings with friends. In addition to his devoted, caring and loving wife and caregiver, Molly, he leaves behind his three daughters, Lynn Lopes and her husband John of North Reading, MA, Kim Learned and her husband Michael Learned of Westford, MA, Terri-Ann Adrian and her husband James Adrian of Westport, CT. Bill also leaves two sons, William Knapsack and his wife Douglass of Montgomery, PA, and Glenn Knapsack and his wife Tracie of Wethersfield, CT. Bill was blessed with 13 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren, Kristen Bertone, Timothy and Daniel Lopes, Andrew, Zachary and Carly Learned, Molly Harbison, Emily, Bailey and Abby Knapsack and Jessica, Connor and Brandon Adrian, and Mike and Mario Bertone. Bill also leaves one brother, Jack and his wife Patricia of Princeton, NJ. Bill leaves a brother-in-law Wallace Lugli and several nieces and nephews. Family and friends may gather at the Farrell Funeral Home 110 Franklin Sq. New Britain, Saturday (Jan.30,2016) at 10:00 for a service for Bill. Burial will follow in Maple Cemetery, Worthington Ridge, Berlin. Visitation will be Friday from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Boy's and Girl's Club 150 Washington St. New Britain, CT 06051.
