Obituary of John Zavez

John Zavez passed away peacefully on September 22, 2015, at Eastern Maine Medical Center , Bangor, ME. He was born in New Britain,CT, to parents Rose and Anton Zavez on June 27, 1929. He graduated from New Britain High School, class of 1947. He served in the US Army from 1951 -1953. He married Elenore Claffey Zavez and they raised a family of five children. He was predeceased by Elenore Zavez, sister, Lillian Kardok and brother, Anton ( "Tony") Zavecz. John worked for many years as a milkman for Ferndale Dairy, and then Guida Dairy, the New Britain Herald, and as a security guard. He was baptized at St. Peter's Church and was a parishioner for many years. Following Elenore's death, he moved to Hampton, NH with his son, James, and daughter-in-law, Marsha. They provided him with love and care that allowed him to live independently. In 2013, he moved to Maine with daughter Annmarie and son-in-law Rey Dubois. He was a member of St Paul the Apostle Parish of Bangor, ME. The family wishes to thank the dedicated and compassionate staff of the Phillips Strickland House , where John was able to live as independently as possible. He was a very loyal and lifetime Chicago Cubs fan. He is survived by his children, Annmarie and Rey Dubois, Maryann Zavez and Bruce Jacobs, John Peter Zavez, Joan Jude Zavez, and James and Marsha Zavez. 10 grandchildren, and 1 great granddaughter. He is also survived by nephews Bernie Zavecz and Gerald Zavecz and their families, Marge and Phil DeConti, Chet Ruscik, Linda Zavecz and son Bernie and family . A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Peter's Church in New Britain on September 26, 2015, at 9:00am. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery , New Britain. In lieu of flowers, donations in John's memory made be made to Activity Program c/o Sharon Nickerson at Phillips Strickland House, 21 Boyd St, Bangor, ME 04401, as John always enjoyed playing his harmonica along with the music entertainment.
