Obituary of Anna Schnitzke

Please share a memory of Anna to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
It is with great sadness that we inform you of the passing of our beloved sister Ann Schnitzke on June 8, 2015. Born in Hartford, Connecticut on May 31, 1939, Ann was the youngest of seven children. Affectionately called Tiny as a child due to her small size, Ann grew up in Kensington and graduated from New Britain High School. After working at GE, a New Britain bank and as a legal secretary at Robinson & Cole in Hartford, Ann began her 40-year career working as personal assistant to Thomas J. Meskill, first as Mayor of New Britain, then as Sixth District Congressman (during which time she lived in Washington, DC and spent time with sister Reggie and family), Governor of the State of Connecticut, and Federal Judge for the Second Circuit Court of Appeals (during which time she enjoyed many, many trips to New York City). Annie, as she was affectionately known to Ellie's children, was a second mom to Steven, David, Sharon and Holly, spoiling the girls rotten many a weekend when they were small, at her home in Newington. For many years more recently, Annie hosted the girls and their families for monthly dinners. Annie loved to cook. She was devoted to her family, starting a wonderful tradition 15 years ago of hosting summer picnics and Christmas dinners at her home in New Britain. Nieces, nephews and cousins were delighted to be reunited during these most enjoyable visits. Ann enjoyed birthday lunches with her sisters and Thanksgiving dinners with her longtime friends. Ann was predeceased by brother Joseph Allen and sisters Helen Ziel and Regina Philippon. She is survived by sisters Eleanor (Salvatore) Spada of Berlin, Victoria (Edward) McManus of Florida and Pauline Carlson of West Hartford, and many nieces and nephews. We wish to express our gratitude to Ann's caregivers at Hughes Health and Rehabilitation as well as the Masonicare Hospice staff for their compassionate care. A funeral service will be held on Monday, June 15 at 11 a.m. at Farrell Funeral Home, 110 Franklin Square, New Britain, followed by burial at West Meadow Cemetery, Newington. Visitation will precede the service from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.
