Catherine B. "Rina"(Rossi) Ciaffaglione, entered into eternal rest, Saturday (May 23, 2015). Rina was a resident of New Britain, Berlin and Newington. She was the widow of Sebastian J. (Sebby) Ciaffaglione. Born in 1924 in Galatz, Romania, to Guido and Maria (Saccaro) Rossi, she was raised in Venice and Trieste, Italy and Ankara, Turkey. She attended school in Istanbul, Turkey. She met Sebastian in Ankara, where he was serving in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. They were married for 55 years. Rina was a member of St. Ann's Church in New Britain and a member and officer of the Santa Sofia Society. She spent many years as a volunteer for the American Red Cross. While employed at the AndrewHouse Nursing Home in New Britain, she served as a Union Stewart for Local 1199, and was a dedicated and compassionate certified nurse assistant. Her favorite pastime was creating beautiful needle work, knitting and crocheting. Her family salutes her fortitude and determination in coping with the dementia that robbed her of so many pleasures in her later years. Thanks to understanding caregivers at Newington Health Care Center who kept her dancing and smiling.
She was predeceased by her parents, and her brothers Ugo and Mario Rossi. She is survived by her children Hugo and his wife Jo Ann Ciaffaglione of Berlin, Laura and her husband Edward Seremet of Newington, Carl and his wife Christina Ciaffaglione of Wellington, FL, and Venice and her husband Richard Davidian of South Carolina. Rina leaves her grandchildren, Tracy, Dena, Daniel, Andrea, Alicia, Carl Jr, Vanessa, Catherine, Stephanie and Richard Jr. Also leaving behind, her great grandchildren, Aivyn, Piper, Easton, Myra, Nora and Pierson.
Funeral services will begin with a calling hour Friday (May 29, 2015) 8:30 to 9:30 AM at the Farrell Funeral Home 110 Franklin Sq. New Britain; followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM at St. Ann Church North St. New Britain. Entombment will follow in St. Mary Cemetery Garden Mausoleum, New Britain.
