Obituary of Lillian Motto
Please share a memory of Lillian to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Lillian C. (Mascagni) Pabst Motto, 103, of Kensington and New Britain, died Friday (May 1, 2015) at an area convalescent home. She was born in Meriden, the daughter of the late Augusto and Theresa (Valoriani) Mascagni. Lillian was a hard worker and helped her beloved husband, Martin P. Pabst, on their dairy farm in Kensington. They were never hungry during the depression because of the big garden, chickens and cows. She canned and froze most of the produce from the garden. Because of her generous spirit, she cooked for company and relatives who did not have as much as they did. After being widowed, she worked for a sewing company in New Britain and then landed the perfect job at Hart's Bakery in Kensington. She loved working at the bakery and talking with the customers. She knew all the customer's names and all about their families. Twenty years after Martin died, she married Michael Motto and moved to New Britain. She never thought she would adjust to city life but she made friends quickly. In her later years, she kept in touch with her friends by constantly talking on the telephone. Lillian was everyone's friend and people told her all their problems. She was a terrific and generous grandmother and great grandmother. Later in life, when she was widowed again, she would go dancing with her girlfriends. She loved dancing on Wednesdays at the New Britain Senior Center. Even recently, when music was being played, she would sway and tap her foot.
Lillian is survived by her devoted daughter Shiela P. Klapatch and her husband Robert of Kensington; her grandchildren Dean R. Klapatch and his wife Robin of West Chicago, IL; Donna L. Jackman and her husband Jonathan of Avon, CT; eight great grandchildren, Lauren, Aaron, Nathan and Kellen Klapatch and Leah, Rachel, Miriam, and Isaac Jackman as well as two nieces, Nancy Piscopiello and Dale McGlew. In addition to her husbands, she was predeceased by her sister, Irene Verrillo, and her brother Andrew Mascagni.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday (May 6, 2015) with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 AM at St. Paul's Church, Kensington. Burial will follow in West Lane Cemetery, Kensington. Visitation will be Wednesday from 10:00 to 11:00 AM at the Farrell Funeral Home, 110 Franklin Sq., New Britain.
