Obituary of Katherine Funari

Katherine W. Funari, 81, was called home to heaven Monday, April 20, 2015. Born and raised in New Britain, where she resided her whole life to Stanley and Rose (Sulick) Weicek. She was predeceased by her husband of 31 years, Henry J. Funari.
She attended local schools and graduated from Mary Immaculate Academy. She went on to graduate from St. Raphael's School of Nursing with an RN. A nurse for many years at various hospitals she settled on Bel-Air Maonor, where after 25 years, she retired as Director of Nursing. As nursing director, one of her greatest joys was her Filipino Nurses, whom she cherished deeply.
As a mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt and friend she could always be counted on for comfort. She enjoyed cooking great meals for her family and instilled the tradition within her children of which she was proud to enjoy with them in her later years. She enjoyed traveling as well, visiting the United Kingdom, Ireland, Germany, France, Switzerland and Italy. She attended the winter Olympics in Albertville, France in 1992 with her traveling companions Sister Betty and Sister Mary Ann.
She is survived by four children, Mary Funari of Newington, Lisa Funari Lamb and her husband Stuart of Pawcatuck, CT, Michael Funari and his wife Helen of Kensington, and Henry Funari and his wife Christine of Kensington; her grandchildren Ashly Lamb and her husband Rory Chisolm of Nova Scotia, Justin Lamb and his fiance' Nicole Carnot of Pawcatuck, Mathew LeBlanc of Kensington, Brandon Funari and Amanda Funari of Kensington; her great grandchildren Rowan Chisolm, Melanie Chisolm, Angelina Levanti, and Kendall Bright. She is also survived by her sister Mary Ann Valenti of Seattle WA, and her sister in law Grace and her husband Richard Brown of Newington and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her sisters Margaret Smedley, Elizabeth Weir, and brothers Stanley Weicek and George Weicek.
Funeral services will be held Friday (April 24, 2015) 10:00 AM from the Farrell Funeral Home 110 Franklin Sq. New Britain with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM at St. Francis of Assisi Church 1755 Stanley St. New Britain. Burial will follow in St. Mary Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at the funeral home.
