The family of Don Clerkin posted a condolence
Tuesday, September 23, 2014
Coach Detrick was a close personal friend and coworker of our Dad, Don Clerkin, in the CCSU Athletic Department for many years. As kids, we literally grew up in Kaiser Hall, watching Central basketball. He was a terrific role model as a coach- successful, classy and respectful at all times. Our sincere condolences to the entire Detrick family on the loss of a great man. Mrs. Ann Clerkin, Ellen Clerkin Calitri, Joe Clerkin, Nancy Clerkin Rhines and Jim Clerkin.

We are truly going to miss Coach at the WHS girls basketball games. It meant a lot to our daughter, Kaleigh, that he took an interest in her. He always had a comment or suggestion for her, and it really was a confidence booster for her when he told her she was a great player. We were just talking about him on Friday night. Our thoughts are with you all. Melissa, Bill, Thomas, Kaleigh, Garrett and Braeden Hart

I first met Bill Dietrick when he came to a Valley Regional High School football game. Scott was serving as an assistant football coach and was also the head coach of our high school basketball team. I was somewhat in awe when I first met him but he greeted me as if I was his friend. What a gentleman!
Later I had the honor to hire him, for one dollar, as the assistant high school basketball coach. What a bargain! Scott and his father did not always agree on the tactic or play to use during the game but his father knew his role as the assistant coach and always supported what his son implemented. It was truly a pleasure to have known him.

Bill was a close friend and golf buddy of John Pacelle, who died a year ago. We send our deepest condolences to Bill's family, we know from John's feelings for Bill how well loved and respected Bill was and what a loss it is to his family and all others who knew and loved him. One of John's last best memories was spending a day golfing with Bill. May they play endless rounds of golf together in heaven. Anne (John's wife) and John's family

We were so sorry to hear of coach's passing! He was so much more than a legend! He was a great coach, but (more than that) he was an awesome person. Today there is sadness in his passing, however there is joy in knowing that he lived a full life dedicated to his family, players, and friends. He will be greatly missed but never forgotten.

William Detrick and his family hosted me for Thanksgiving and Christmas over the past two years. He was a kind and warmhearted man. I am an international student studying away from home and it was him who made me feel warm and home. He will be missed by all of us and I send my sincerest condolences to him and his family.
