Obituary of Frederick McGovern Gucken

Frederick "Fred" McGovern Gucken, 77, of New Britain, died April 23rd at the Hospital of Central CT at New Britain General. Fred was born on August 24, 1930 to the late Rita Gucken and Frederick "Doc" Gucken. He was a lifelong resident of New Britain and graduated from St. Mary's School and New Britain High School. Fred faithfully served his country in the Army where he was stationed in Germany and Austria before being honorably discharged in 1954. He was employed at Fafnir Bearing for many years prior to his retirement. Fred was active in the New Britain Senior Citizens Coalition, serving as secretary. Fred was an avid reader and loved music. He sang in the choir at St. Francis Church. Fred enjoyed traveling, especially the excursions he made with the seniors he met through the Coalition. Fred is survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Jane and Bill Madden of Bristol; a nephew, Brian Madden of Bristol; two nieces, Peggy Madden of Windsor, Vermont and Sharon Geanuracos and her husband James of Farmington and their sons George and William. He was predeceased by a special cousin, Ritamae (Duffy) Rosol and is survived by Ritamae's family. Friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Monday at 9:30 AM at St. Francis of Assisi Church, New Britain. Burial with full military honors will follow in St. Mary Cemetery, New Britain. There are no calling hours. Arrangements are in care of the Farrell Funeral Home, 110 Franklin Sq., New Britain.
