James C. Failla, Sr., 92, of New Britain died April 13, 2008 at the Hospital of Central Connecticut at New Britain General. He was the beloved husband for 63 years of Helen (Colavecchio) Failla. Born in New Britain, he was a son of the late Salvatore and Frances (Pizzuto) Failla. James was a graduate of EC Goodwin Tech / New Britain High and was later employed by United Tool and Die of Hartford for 10 years. He was then drafted and served in the U.S. Army during World War II before working as a machinist for the Apex Tool Company for 25 years. He later began the Failla Tool Company where he would eventually retire from. James was also an active parishioner of St. Ann's Church, New Britain as well as a member of the Chalker Beach Association of Old Saybrook. Besides his wife, James is survived by his son, James C. Failla, Jr. and wife Shirley, a daughter, Christine F. O'Brien and husband David of New Britain; grandchildren, James C. Failla, III, Megan O'Brien and Allison O'Brien, who will all greatly miss their "Popi"; a brother and sister-in-law, Sofio and Tina Failla of Newington; He is also survived by a host of nieces and nephews; James was predeceased by sisters, Bessy Suess and Virginia Gilberto and brothers, Joseph and Anthony Failla. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM at St. Ann's Church, New Britain. Burial with military honors will follow in St. Mary Cemetery, New Britain. Visitation will be Tuesday morning from 8:30 until the time of Mass at the Farrell Funeral Home, 110 Franklin Sq., New Britain. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Ann's Church, 47 Clark St., New Britain, CT. 06051.
