Charlotte Christina (Graves) Ashton, 85, of West Hartford, devoted wife of 66 years to David E. Ashton, passed away peacefully on Tuesday (October 2, 2007) surrounded by her loving family. Born in Deep River, daughter of the late Richard and Hilda (Carlson) Graves, she lived in West Hartford all of her adult life. Besides her husband, she is survived by three daughters and a son in law, Nancy and George Dewey of West Hartford, Sally Ashton of Blackwood, NJ and Sue Ellen Larsen of Farmington. She was the proud grandmother of six grandchildren, Seth Dewey and his wife Elizabeth of Nashua, NH, Robert Larsen and his wife Amy of Cumming, GA, Elizabeth (Dewey) Morander and her husband Eric of North Kingstown, RI, Brett Harrison and his wife Suzanne of Annapolis, MD, Gregory Harrison and his wife Elaine of Grasville, MD and Ellen (Larsen) Roberts and her husband Scott of Simsbury, CT. She also leaves nine treasured great grandchildren, Courtney, Ian, Sage, Emily, Lindsay, Ryan, Max, Ben and Charlotte. Her family has found inspiration in her compassion, her strength and her love. An avid nature lover, she enjoyed tending her beautiful gardens and watching the birds that visited her yard. She also loved writing and reading poetry and enjoyed traveling with her husband and friends. She volunteered at Avery Church Homes, was a member of the West Hartford Belles and the Tunxis Ladies Golf League. She worked for years at the Acorn Shop once located in West Hartford Center. A Memorial Service in celebration of Charlotte's life will be held Monday, October 8th, 11:00AM at the Westminster Presbyterian Church, 2080 Boulevard, West Hartford, officiated by the Rev. Graham Robinson, Pastor. Burial at Fairview Cemetery, West Hartford will be private. There are no calling hours. Donations in Charlotte's memory may be made to The Audubon Society or Westminster Presbyterian Church. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Paul B. Andrews through the Farrell Funeral Home, New Britain.
