Obituary: Ms. Virginia "Ginny" Walsh, a native of New Britain and daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Walsh, died at her home in Palm Beach Shores, Florida, Monday, June 25, 2007. She served as Director for 22 years of the Visiting Nurse Association Inc., in Worcester, MA. Ginny headed a full time staff of more than 300 people, who serviced 5,000 patients yearly. As prime mover and planner for the development of a new VNA headquarters and facility in Worcester and in recognition of her years of service, the main auditorium in the new structure was designated by the board of trustees as "The Virginia Walsh Auditorium." Ginny was also instrumental in introducing the concept of extended home-health care at New Britain General Hospital following successful implementation of this service at the Worcester agency in cooperation with Blue Cross. A graduate of New Britain Schools, St. Francis Hospital School of Nursing, Boston College, and Columbia University, Miss Walsh was also a veteran of the U.S. Army Nurse Corp. and served with occupational forces in Japan. She was a graduate of the American School of Management, a member of the National League of Nursing and American Nurses Assn., a corporator of Peoples Savings Bank of Worcester and a board member of Becker Junior College, Worcester. Ginny was predeceased by her lifelong friend Violet Tracey. Tracey served along side Ginny throughout her career in the US Army and was a huge asset to Ginny at the VNA, serving as Director of Personnel. Jane Walsh Conway and Rosemary Walsh Martin are the two surviving sisters of the family of eight: predeceased by Gertrude Heslin, Marion Riley, Dr. Robert Walsh, Patricia Kiniry and Atty. John Walsh. Ginny was dearly loved by her forty four nieces and nephews. A memorial Mass will be held on Monday, July 16th at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph Church, 195 South Main St., New Britain. Burial will be at St. Mary's Cemetery, 1309 Stanley St., New Britain. Friends may gather at the Farrell Funeral Home, 110 Franklin Sq., New Britain, beginning at 9:00 a.m. An expression of sympathy may be sent to St. Francis of Assisi, 200 West 20th St., Riviera Beach, Florida 33404.
