Veronica "Ronnie" (Danko) Mihalyo, 81 of Newington and New Britain, died peacefully Monday (May 21, 2007) at Brittany Farms Health Center after a long illness. Born in New Britain, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Mary (Lickwar) Danko. She attended New Britain High School graduating in 1943 and the Connecticut Institute of Hairdressing in Hartford graduating in 1947. With her friend Terry, Ronnie opened and co-owned her own beauty salon, Ter-Ron's Beauty Salon in downtown New Britain from 1952 to 1959. Ronnie was employed as a hairdresser at G. Fox in downtown Hartford and at various locations in the area. Among them, she was the hairdresser and friend to many at St. Lucian's Residence, the School House Apartments in New Britain and many nursing home residents. Ronnie was well known as the hairdresser to several funeral homes throughout the New Britain area and had worked at the Farrell Funeral Home since the early 1960's. In later years, Ronnie worked for and retired from the Oak Hill School for the Blind in Newington. Ronnie will always be remembered for her great sense of humor and generous and giving nature. She enjoyed many fun times with her friends and always tried to make people laugh. She loved animals and gave a loving home to many unwanted dogs. She always volunteered to help out those who were less fortunate or who were lonely and needed a friend. Ronnie enjoyed many trips with her children including those to Boston, Colorado, California, Las Vegas, Florida and many local sites. She even rode on the African Queen from the Katherine Hepburn movie, rode a jet ski with her son, Mark and traveled through Paris and London with her son, Michael. In her younger days, Ronnie loved ice skating and dreamed of flying like her idol, Amelia Earhart. She was a member of the Daughters of Isabella of New Britain. Ronnie is survived by her daughter, Marianne Mihalyo of Newington. She was predeceased by her beloved sons, Mark D. Mihalyo of Plainville and Michael F. Mihalyo of Colorado. She was predeceased by her former husband, Michael Mihalyo. She was also predeceased by a brother, Francis Danko and his wife, Mary Danko and her sister, Elaine (Danko) Onisto. Ronnie leaves behind several nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles. Ronnie also leaves behind and will be missed and fondly remembered by many long time friends and acquaintances. The family would like to thank the staff of Brittany Farms for their loving care and kindness given to Ronnie in the years she was a resident there. Calling hours will be Thursday (May 24, 2007) from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Farrell Funeral Home, 110 Franklin Square, New Britain. Eulogies will be heard at 7:15 followed by a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. Burial and service will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the Holy Trinity Greek Catholic Cemetery on Osgood Avenue in New Britain.
