Obituary of John P. McCormack

OBITUARIES John P. McCormack, 88, of New Britain, died Saturday Night. Born in Bridgeport the son of the late Edward J. and Catherine (Cafferty) McCormack, he lived in Hartford and New Britain for most of his life. He was the husband of the late Alice (Byrne) McCormack who died Nov. 27, 2004. John was a graduate of St. Patrick School, Hartford Public High School and he attended the Maryknoll Seminary, Maryknoll, NY. He retired as Lieutenant in 1977 from the Hartford Fire Dept. after 32 years of service and retired in 1983 from the New Britain National Bank after five years of service. He was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Church for over fifty years where he was a daily communicant and a minister of the Eucharist for 13 years. He was past president of the Fire Department Holy Name Society, was a member of the Holy Family Monastery Retreat League, a member of the Knights of Columbus, both 3rd and 4th Degree, the Maryknoll Sponsers, the New Britain Senior Citizens, the AARP Chapter 3436 Elm Hill, a former director of the Hartford Fire Department Credit Union, a member of the Fireman�s Protective Association, the Fireman�s Benevolent Association, and the Hartford Fire Dept Emerald Society. Mr. McCormack is survived by two sons Bruce McCormack and Brian McCormack, both of Florida and a grandson John Edward McCormack of Ohio. Funeral services will be held Wednesday 9:00 A.M. from the Farrell Funeral Home 110 Franklin Sq. with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 A.M. at St. Francis of Assisi Church. Burial will follow in St. Mary Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 2:00 to 4:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
