OBITUARIES Joseph F. Liss, 80, of New Britain, died Saturday Night at the Hospital of Central Connecticut in New Britain. Born in New Britain, the son of the late Joseph A. and Emily (Story) Liss, he was a life long resident and graduate of New Britain High School where he was a full back for the football team for all four years. He graduated from St. Michael�s College with a B S degree in Business Administration and joined the U. S. Navy during World War II serving on the USS Omaha and the USS Little Rock. During World War II he earned the Victory Medal and the American Theatre Medal. He retired in 1984 from the Fafnir Bearing Co. as a Production Control Supervisor. Joe was very involved with the Fafnir Seniors, the New Britain Senior Center, the Disabled American Veterans and was a volunteer at the Hospital for Special Care for eleven years. He also was an avid golfer, he loved to travel and was a devoted fan of the New Britain Rock Cats. Joe is survived by his wife Diane (Benoit) Liss, his son Mark Liss and his wife Jeanne of Enfield, two daughters Jacqueline and her husband Robert Panetta of Kensington, and Debra Spring of Berlin; seven grandchildren Joseph Spring and his wife Michelle, Daniel Spring, Douglas Spring, Jeffrey Spring, Eric Panetta, Neil Panetta and Laura Liss and a great grandson Andrew Spring. He was predeceased by his sister Lucille Doering and his nephew Michael Doering. Funeral services will be held Wednesday 10:00 A.M. from the Farrell Funeral Home 110 Franklin Sq. New Britain, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 A.M. at St. Jerome Church New Britain. Burial will follow in St. Mary Cemetery, New Britain. Visitation will be Tuesday from 4:00 to 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
