OBITUARIES Kenneth Vaughn Ellsworth, 89, died, August 2, 2006 at the Masonic Home in Wallingford, CT. He was born March 26, 1917 in Island Falls, ME, son of Ernest and Phyllis (James) Ellsworth. Ken was pre-deceased by his beloved wife Ethel, daughter Dianne Ellsworth, brother Elton James Ellsworth and sister-in-law Cecelia M. Ellsworth. He is survived by his daughters Judith E. Warner of New Britain, CT., Katherine E. Matthews of Cromwell, CT., son Gary K. Ellsworth and his life�s partner Diane Wolcott of Coventry, RI. Survived also by his sister Shirley Sweet of Quincy, MA and many cousins, nieces and nephews. Ken was educated in Maine schools and served in the National Guard and Civilian Corp.. He then enlisted in the U.S. Naval Reserve in Bangor, ME, WWII on July 16, 1942. Entered service in Portland, ME as Apprentice Seaman 3rd Class and earned 1st Class fireman rating in Newport, RI. Advanced Diesel School in Richmond, VA as 3rd Class Motor Machinist Mate then entering Motor Torpedo Boat Training in Portsmouth, RI made up of RON 12 Squadron from the Brooklyn Navy Yard where he earned a 2nd Class ranking. He served in WWII in the Panama Canal Zone (Balboa) on Patrol Duty and was Motor Machinist Mate 1st Class upon his honorable discharge, 10/03/1945, from the US Navy Personnel Center, Fargo Bldg, Boston, MA. He met his wife, Ethel Mae Knox in Bangor, ME. where they married June 22, 1946. In 1952 they moved to New Haven, CT to raise their children. Ken was employed as an electrician at Pratt & Whitney, Division of United Technologies from 1/21/52 thru to his retirement on 3/31/82. He and his wife then moved to Becket, MA where they built their home. In 1992 Ken was recognized after 25 years as a 32nd degree Mason. He served as Master Mason of Federal Lodge in Chester, MA and Master Mason of Huntington Lodge in Russell, MA. He was a member of the York Rite Bodies of Masonry out of Westfield and Pittsfield, MA. He was also a member of the Scottish Rite Masonry in Becket, MA. He was a member of the VFW Lodge #11054 and the Becket Council of Aging. In 2002, Ken lost his beloved wife of 56 years and then moved to CT to be closer to his children. A small memorial service and burial will take place at the Lawndale Cemetery, Stillwater Avenue, Old Town, ME. at the convenience of the family.
