Edward Steltner passed away on February 27, 2006 after a very long illness. He was 81. He was predeceased by his father, Herman and mother Rose (Giguiere). Ed was a lifelong New Britain resident, attended local schools. He is best remembered for his friendly personality and his excellent sense of humor. He was an outstanding athlete excelling in basketball, baseball and fast-pitch softball. He was a key player on the only Goodwin Technical School basketball team to ever beat New Britain High School. Additionally; in 1954, he managed the Stanley Works Dusty League softball team to the city title. He, like his father Herman, was a proficient Bass angler. He retired from the Stanley Works in May, 1987 after 39 years of dedicated service. He came to Stanley in 1948 from the former Landers, Fairy & Clark, as a tool and die maker and rose through positions of increasing responsibility in the Tool Room to the position of General Foreman. While at Stanley, Ed pioneered the electrical discharge machining process for quickly cutting profiles in blanking dies. The family would like to extend its thanks to The Stanley Works for providing the long term employment opportunity to Ed. The family would also like to thank the countless employees at the Stanley Works and area "job shops� who worked with Ed and facilitated his successful career. He leaves behind his wife of 59 years Cecelia (Marcinczyk), his son Gregory and many relatives and friends residing in and around the City of New Britain. Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer Association - Connecticut Chapter, 279 New Britain Road, Kensington, CT 06037. There will be no calling hours. Friends and family wishing to attend a "Celebration of Ed�s Life� are welcome to attend a Mass of Christian burial at St Maurice Church, 100 Wightman Road, New Britain; Friday at 10:00AM. Burial will be at Sacred Heart Cemetery with the "Celebration of Life� reception to follow. The Farrell Funeral Home Franklin Sq. New Britain is in charge of arrangements.
