Frank R. Kern, died peacefully after a brief illness on Thursday (January 26, 2006) at New Britain General Hospital. Born in New Britain on September 29, 1924, to Frank and Emma (Lang) Kern, he attended New Britain High School and the Hartford Institute of Accounting. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II as an aerial photographer in the Pacific theater and was awarded the Air Medal for completing five trips over enemy territory. After his discharge, Frank married Marion Schreiner in 1951. They moved to Kensington in 1966 and celebrated 54 years of happiness last May. Frank worked at Burritt Mutual Savings Bank for several years before taking a job with the State Banking Department. He worked as a bank examiner for 33 years, retiring in 1992 to enjoy many years of travel with his loving wife. He recently had moved to Hebron to be closer to his daughter and grandsons. Frank was a member of St. Peter Church, St. Peter Society and was a charter member of the Berlin VFW. Sharing Marion's loss are her daughters, Marilee Driscoll of Plymouth, MA, her husband Bill and their sons Robby and Dexter, and Bethann Sihvonen of Lebanon and her sons Holt, Wyatt, and Lucas. Frank is also survived by his devoted niece Janice Jost Mazzeo of Princeton, NJ, her husband Tony and their daughter Marlyse, as well as a small but loving group of family and friends. Frank was predeceased by his sisters Margaret Jost and Emma Eder Wilcox, and a nephew, Luddy Eder. Friends and family are invited to a mass of Christian Burial Saturday January 28, 2006, at St. Peter's Church in New Britain at 10:00 a.m. Entombment will follow in the mausoleum at St. Mary Cemetery, New Britain.
