Obituary of Alfred Callegari
Please share a memory of Alfred to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Alfred Callegari, husband, father, grandfather and Poppa. He was a kind and gentle man who will be sorely missed. He died peacefully in his home with Grace, his devoted wife and partner of 65 years, by his side. He was 88 years old. Al was born in New Britain, the son of the late Valentino and Pierina Callegari. He was a proud veteran, having served in Okinawa in the United States Army Air Forces with the 435th Bomb Squadron. He retired from Emhart Corporation after 44 years.
He leaves behind his daughter, Diane Callegari Funk and her husband Bill of Berlin; and his son, Thomas Callegari and his wife Ann Laverne of Southington. He was so proud of his four grandchildren, Amy Funk Gaudet and her husband Steven of Farmington, Justin Funk of Old Orchard Beach, Maine, Jennifer Callegari, and Brandon Callegari, both of Plainville. Al's greatest joy these past few years were his great-grandchildren, Kacie Fusco, Adrianna and Ava Gaudet. He also leaves his loving and devoted sister and brother-in-law, Lena (Callegari) and Bill Brown, with whom he shared a special bond; three sisters-in-law Alice Bissoni, Marilyn Driscoll and Marian Holmes; his loving niece, Lynne Kowalczyk, a special friend, Beth Kavy, and many other nieces and nephews. Al was predeceased by his oldest sister and brother-in-law Rena (Callegari) and Stanley Kowalczyk. The Callegari family would like to thank his hospice nurse, Shannon, and his aide Sarah, for their kind and gentle care these past two weeks.
