Obituary of Deputy Fire Chief David P. Fiori

Deputy Fire Chief David P. Fiori, 59, of the New Britain Fire Department died early Monday morning while on duty. Born and raised in Kensington, he has been a New Britain resident since 1980. He was a sergeant in the U.S. Marines, serving as a crash crew firefighter. He was a member of the Marine Corps League Hardware City Detachment. A 36 year veteran of the New Britain Fire Department, he was promoted to Deputy Chief in 1992. For many years he was active in youth baseball, PAL and New Britain High School football programs. He also was a Connecticut State fire service instructor. He enjoyed traveling with his family, especially to Cape Cod. He loved cooking, maintaining his garden, and working around the house.
Above all else, Dave put his family first, spending lots of time with his wife and children. He was also a confidant to many of his firefighters who came to him for advice concerning the department and personal issues.
Dave is survived by his loving wife of 33 years, Karen (Kulak) Fiori; their children Christine Fiori of New Britain, Lt. Michael Fiori serving in the U.S. Coast Guard in Washington, DC and Kevin Fiori of New Britain; his parents Richard and Irene (Wielgos) Fiori; his sister Linda and her husband Philip Romegialli of East Berlin; two brothers James Fiori of Rocky Hill and Thomas and his wife Andrea Fiori of Wrightstown, NJ ; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister Diane (Fiori) Martin and a sister in law Linda (Perretta) Fiori.
Friends and family are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial Friday at 10:00 AM at St. Maurice Church 100 Wightman Road New Britain. Burial will follow the Mass. Visitation will be Thursday 3:00 to 7:00 P.M. at Farrell Funeral Home 110 Franklin Sq. New Britain. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Wounded Warriors Project P.O.
