Obituary of Mary Ann Noddin

Mary Ann Noddin passed away peacefully on Sunday March 23, 2014 at The Hospital of Central Connecticut New Britain campus due to complications of Alzheimer's disease. She was born in Brooklyn, NY and raised in Berlin, NH, She was the beloved wife of Allen Noddin for 64 thoroughly wonderful years. She met the love of her life in the winter of 1944 when she was 13 years old and he was 15 when she fell skiing and he helped her up. After a day of skiing together she returned home and proudly proclaimed to her older sister "that she met the boy she was going to marry." As proof, they were married on August 7, 1949.
She was employed by the New Britain General Hospital initially as nurse's aide and in later years as a medical secretary in the psychiatric unit. She retired in 1993 after 38 years of dedicated service where she fondly remembered for her loving and caring way of working with the doctors, nurses, and patients.
She will always be remembered by her family as a loving Wife, Mom, Sister, Grandmother (aka. Bestemor), and Great Grandmother. Just as importantly, she will also be remembered as a steadfast friend and care giver to the many, many people she cared for throughout her long life. Over many years, she and her husband invited countless numbers of "new found friends" with no immediate family into their home to share their family and a holiday meal. Thereby teaching her family, friends, and children the importance of helping others.
She was predeceased by her brother Roland Rasmussen, her sister Ester Leighton, and husband Ralph, her sister Eva Gustafson and husband Arthur, and her brother in-law Edward Helmold. She is survived by her sister Camilla Helmold of Hemstead, NY.
She is also survived by her loving husband Allen, her daughter Linda Charnick and husband David of Southington, her son Michael and wife Debra of Bristol, her son James of Bristol, and her son Keith and wife Deborah of Blaine, MN. She will also be greatly missed by her grandchildren; Michael Charnick of Ft. Kent, ME, Jessica Smith and husband Randy of Farmington, Kyle Noddin of Farmington, Jennifer Marie Noddin of Blaine, MN, Christopher Noddin and wife Sophanna of Blaine, MN and Sean Noddin of Tampa, FL. She also leaves behind her great grandchildren Terra Lynn Noddin and James Allen Noddin of Blaine, MN, and Sydney Grace Smith of Farmington.
The Farrell Funeral Home of New Britain is assisting the family with arrangements. There will be no public calling hours or service as Mary Ann's wish was to be remembered as the woman she was. Peace, happiness, and joy to all those who cared for our Mary Ann. In lieu of flowers, Mary Ann can be remembered with contributions to The Alzheimer's Association, 2075 Silas Deane Hwy.
