John W. Burns, 90, formerly of New Britain, died Tuesday Jan. 28, 2014 at an area convalescent home. Born in New Britain, the son of the late Edward P. and Mary (Hanley) Burns, he lived most of his life in New Britain. A graduate of New Britain High School, he joined the U.S. Marines and served his country during World War II. He later worked at several supermarkets, including The Big Y, retiring in 1993.
John is survived by his sister Patricia Germaine of Plantsville and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Monday 10:00 AM from the Farrell Funeral Home 110 Franklin Sq. with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM at St. Peter Church 98 Franklin Sq. New Britain. Burial will follow in St. Mary Cemetery, New Britain. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of the donor's choice
