Obituary of Robert Barrows

Robert R. Barrows, 74, died Sunday (Aug.25, 2013) at Apple Rehab in Cromwell. Born in New Britain, the son of the late Robert J. and Florence (Rivers) Barrows, he was a lifelong resident. He was a graduate of New Britain High School, where he was quarterback of the football team. During his senior year, he played in a bowl game in Miami, FL and later played Semi-Pro Ball in Hartford. He served in the U.S. Army from 1959 to 1962. During his career Robert worked at New Britain Machine, where he was active in the union. Later he was also employed by the State of Connecticut in the Labor Department. Mr. Barrows is survived by his son Robert S. Barrows and his wife Ana of Cromwell, his daughter Bridget Barrows-Copper of Berlin; a sister Florence Cegielski and her husband Mark of New Britain; a brother David Barrows and his wife Judy of Southington; six grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Friday at 10:00 A.M. at the Farrell Funeral Home 110 Franklin Sq. New Britain. Burial will follow in St. Mary Cemetery, New Britain. Visitation will be Thursday from 4:00 to 6:00 P.M. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
