I had the honor and privilege to call Tom Higgins my friend. I will miss him greatly, and offer my sincerest condolences to his beautiful family. I worked closely with Tom on many veterans-centric projects, from New Britain's "Armistice @100" World War I Commemoration, to projects for House of Heroes Connecticut, to Wreaths Across America of New Britain and more. Working with and befriending Tom, one can't help but learn a great deal about honor, integrity, service and sacrifice. Quite simply, Tom defined the word Patriot. I further had the privilege to honor Tom last year, presenting him with DAV Chapter 8's Angelo Tomasso, Sr. and Angelo Tomasso, Jr. Veteran of Distinction Award at the 2023 Golden Kielbasa Veterans Open before hundreds of guests. I wrote this story (see following link) about Tom's bountiful life for the occasion, and am proud to share it here. God bless you my friend.

The Paldino Family was next door neighbors to the Higgin family on Kenyon Circle for over 40years.
Tom was older but I do have wonderful memories of
Tom having my father belly laughing from his jokes-
He knew how to light up a room
Thank You for your Service
Deepest Sympathy to the Higgins Family
Love, The Paldino Family

It's true that Tommy could spin a tale and deliver the punchline with expertise. His best quality, though, was being a good listener. Whether the subject was sports, business, family, he was all in. He had a terrific sense of humor, and could also offer wisdom, compassion, empathy. Whichever was required. We could all take a page from his book. He lifted our spirits even as he became ill. We already miss not being able to sit with him and enjoy his company. Our most sincere sympathy to his beautiful family.
Rest easy old friend.
Rob and Sarah Swatsworth

One summer, I was traveling a lot for work and I let the grass in the backyard grow to a less than desirable height due to neglect. One day my wife Jocelyn was staring in the backyard and says “why is Mr. Higgins mowing in the back?” When he was finished, I went to thank him (I was very embarrassed that he had to work to counter my delinquency). He reassured me that he understood the circumstances and was happy to help. Jocelyn baked him a try of cookies as a “thank you”. Two days later there was a nice note from him which included the P.S. “Will mow for cookies”. He was a wonderful neighbor.

Dear Katelyn, Grace, Adam and all of Tom's family: you are in our prayers at this time as you face the future without the physical presence of your loving father and O'pa. What a legacy he leaves behind- not only his beautiful family but his many accomplishments including his service to our country and lifelong support for veterans. O'pa Tom fought the good fight, he finished the race, he kept the faith- now may he receive his eternal reward. With deepest sympathy Tricia, Don and all of the Jersey Burkes
