Mary-Jo (Scully) Vocke, 74, of New Britain passed away on Sunday October 20th 2024 after living courageously with lung cancer for 18 months.

Born on February 24, 1950 in New Britain, CT to Dr. Joseph B and Grace (Emmett) Scully.

Along with her parents, she was pre deceased by her brothers Mark and J.B. Jr.

Mary-Jo is survived by her children, Clark Emmett Vocke, his wife Kristen of Wethersfield and John Joseph Vocke and his wife Amanda of Tolland. Her sister Grace Margaret Scully of Waterford, CT and brother Emmett Scully and his wife Cathrine of South Carolina. She will be greatly missed by her Grandchildren Iain and Blair. She also leaves several nephews and a niece as well as many very dear cousins and friends.

Mary Jo was a graduate of New Britain schools, College of St. Elizabeth and earned two masters degrees from CCSU. Using her degree to work for 34 years, primarily teaching bi-lingual first grade in the city of New Britain.

She lived a very remarkable life, traveling and serving in the Peace Corp in both Israel and Colombia.

If she wasn’t reading you could likely find Mary-Jo walking throughout New Britain, especially Walnut Hill Park. Walking was very important to her, often clocking 10+ miles in a day. Her greatest joy, however was spending time with her family. Between trips to Saratoga, New York City, Florida and visits down to Branford she reveled in spending time with those she loved most.

The family would like to offer a sincere thank you to the teams at Starling Physician Oncology, Hartford Healthcare at Home, and Dedicated Companions, especially Michelyn Clarke. Her empathy, support, and wisdom were invaluable.

Friends and family are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Maurice Church 100 Wightman Road New Britain on Saturday October 26th at 1030 AM. Burial will follow in St. Mary Cemetery, New Britain. Per Mary-Jo's wishes there will be no calling hours.
