Obituary of Leokadja Ziminski
Please share a memory of Leokadja to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Late Friday evening, July 19, 2013, Leokadaja Mary Ziminski passed peacefully into a better life. Mary, as many friends knew her, was born in Zdunska-Wola, Poland, 91 years ago, the oldest of four children. After the trauma of WWII, her paternal uncle, Anton Libsch, sponsored her parents, Mary, her brother and her sister to come live and work in America. Soon she married Stanislaw Ziminski, moving to New Britain, raising two sons, John and George, and proudly becoming a United States citizen.
Mary was engaging and outspoken. She could have strong opinions and had own sense of fairness. Mary always worked hard at many various jobs in her life including working the farm, creative international trading, seamstress, baker, cashier, lathe operator, housekeeper; she would hang her own wallpaper and lay ceramic tile in order to get it done right.
Mary also had many hobbies. She was an avid horse rider and amateur figure skater. She enjoyed traveling, reading, sewing, and antiquing.
Leokadja is pre-deceased by her brother, Franciszek Libsch, and her husband Stanislaw Ziminski. She is survived by two sons, John and George, her sister Anna Roller-Schuchmann, her brother Alfons Libsch, and his wife Perpetua, and many nieces and nephews to whom she was Tante Lotte.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday 10:00 AM from the Farrell Funeral Home 110 Franklin Sq. New Britain with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM at St. Andrew Church 396 Church Street.
