Casimir Slipski

Obituary of Casimir Slipski

Please share a memory of Casimir to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Casimir “Grandpa Cas” Slipski, of Newington, CT departed his extraordinary life on Friday, January 26, 2024 at the age of 102, surrounded by love.

Born in New Britain, he lived most of his life in Berlin until moving to Newington 22 years ago.  He was the beloved husband to the late Mary (Studzinski) Slipski for 70 years.

Cas leaves behind his daughter Laura and her husband Robert Zarotney and his son Thomas and his wife Nancy Slipsk. He also leaves his grandchildren Cheryl Slipski, Tommy Slipski, Nicholle and her husband Todd McKiernan, Patrick and his wife Rene DiPinto, Michael and his wife Christina Zarotney, and Emily Zarotney and her feral cats. Cas’s most favorite treasures were his great grandchildren; Jack Dagata, Evan and Eric Zarotney, Samantha, Abby and Patrick DiPinto IV.

Cas served in the US Navy during WWII and was honorably discharged. He then went on to work at Stanley Works in New Britain for over 30 years.

Cas loved nature and being outside. He was an avid fisherman and hunter spending his early summers at his lake house in Salisbury.  In his later years, he enjoyed chasing striped bass and flounder on the sound. He was a craftsman who could fix anything and he never walked by a penny without picking it up. He was so happy and content to sit and watch an eagle ride the current for hours or spend the day on the boat even if he didn’t get a bite.

He held court in his garage on Clarendon Terrace with many special friends which he will miss dearly.  More than anything, he loved spending time with his family.  He will be remembered for his many stories, his harmonica playing and singing of his favorite songs.

His family would like to thank Gladeview Health care center in Old Saybrook, especially his favorite friend Christina, and the 7th Floor staff at Middlesex Memorial Hospital for their kindness and compassion.

Should friends desire, a memorial contribution can be sent to Friends of Hammonasset (Meigs Point Nature Center) PO Box 4146, Madison, CT 06443.

The thing about Cas was that he made every one of his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and friends feel like the most important person in his life. His smile, his wisdom, his ability to make anyone laugh, and especially his candor will never be forgotten.  This is not goodbye, but so long Grandpa Cas.
