Obituary of Elsa Fuentes

January 1, 1938 to January 27, 2024

On January 27, 2024 Elsa Fuentes passed away peacefully at age 86. Elsa was a loving mother, grandmother, and grandaunt. She cared deeply for her children, family, and those around her. We will miss her dearly.

Elsa Fuentes was born in Bucaramanga, Colombia, the daughter of the late Gratiniano and Sara (Camargo) Suarez. She attended local schools and later received her secretarial certificate. She was employed as a secretary with The National Social Security Fund for many years. In 1980 Elsa, with her three children, immigrated to the United States. She and her three children lived with her extended family in Windsor for a couple of years before settling in the Hartford area. Elsa came to faith in Christ in 1989 and began to meet with the church in Newington and met faithfully with the church until the time of her departure.

Elsa is survived by her sons, Juan Carlos Fuentes and his wife Helena of New Britain, Alvaro Mejia and his wife May of Middletown, her grandson Daniel Yousef of Hartford, her dear friend Ronald Madore of Windsor, her brother, Marco Suarez and his wife Clara, nephews and nieces, Fabio Alvarez, Patty Aresco, Francis Alvarez, Alex Alvarez, Javier Suarez, Marc Frantz, as well as many other nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends, in the United States and Colombia.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her daughter, Liliana Yousef, and her siblings, Cecilia Suarez, Gabriel Suarez, and Sara Alvarez.

On Friday, February 2, a visitation will be held at Farrell Funeral Home, 110 Franklin Square, New Britain, CT from 10:30 am to 12:00 pm. From 12:00 pm to 12:45 pm there will be a Memorial Meeting followed by burial at Saint Thomas Cemetery located at 329 Barbour Road, New Britain. After the burial there will be lunch at the meeting hall of the church in Newington located at 125 Maple Hill Avenue, Newington.
