Obituary of Barbara N. Cronin

Barbara N. Cronin passed into eternal rest on October 29, 2023. She was born July 6, 1930 to Frank & Mae (Murphy) Neurath. Barbara grew up in New Britain, CT and graduated from Saint Joseph School and New Britain High School class of 1948. She was a volunteer at New Britain General Hospital. She was employed by the State of Connecticut beginning in the Welfare Dept. and at this point she achieved her dream by becoming a Flight Attendant with Trans Ocean Airlines based at Bradley Airport, Windsor Locks, CT. She traveled to many countries including Ireland, England, Scotland, France and Italy with European Home base in Frankfurt on Mein, Germany. After she met the love of her life Bob Cronin at a Hillyear College dance, she returned to the State of Connecticut. Public Works Dept., then the Connecticut State Police Dept. Headquarters in Hartford.

She and Bob married on April 30, 1960. They lived in New Britain where they raised their family of four children, Robert Jr. Patricia, Brenda and Peggy. Bob & Barb were involved in Saint Francis of Assisi Church. Loving to sing, Barb was a member of the choir. They were also President of the Mr. and Mrs. Club at church. Being in love with Cape Cod, MA the family spent many summers vacationing in West Dennis at Cross Winds Cottage and later years Bob & Barb spent time camping in North Truro at Highland Campground with friends Jim & Ellen and family. Both of them were avid sailors and enjoyed many years sailing on Long Island Sound at their sailboat “Windsong” Barb returned to work after the children were grown. Starting with Central Connecticut State University. After a few years she was employed at the University of Conn Health Center in Farmington where she was a assistant to the Director of Cancer Registry. She retired from there on October 1989.The year 1991 brought a diagnosis of a very rare cancer and her chances of survival were not good. She lost her right eye and she is a cancer survivor of 32 years.

Barb & Bob had purchased a condo in Lake Worth, Lake Side Village, Florida and were able to have many enjoyable years. They played golf with the friends they acquired there. They also maintained a condo at Kensington Woods in Kensington, CT and belong to Timberlin Golf Club were Bob was a member of the Senior Men’s and Barb with the Lady Niners. Being communicants of Saint Paul Church, Barb was also part of the 7:30 AM Prayer Group after daily Mass.Barb was also a fan of UConn woman’s basketball – no interruptions while the game was on.

Barb leaves Robert Jr. and his wife Donna, Patricia DeMar and her husband Larry, Brenda Cronin (Klopp) and Peggy Onofrio and her husband Bob. She also leaves her precious grandchildren: Julie and husband Zack Deluco, Emily & Hannah Cronin, Elizabeth and her husband Tom and Joe Klopp and Nicholas & Kristen Onofrio. Great Grandsons River and Remy Deluco.

Funeral services for Barb will be held Wednesday (Nov 8) with a visitation from 10:00 – 11:00 AM at the Farrell Funeral Home, 110 Franklin Sq. New Britain with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 11:30AM at St. Paul’s Church, 485 Alling St. Berlin. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, 1141 Stanley St. New Britain.
