Obituary of Johnathan J. Riter
Johnathan James Riter (Jack), age 31, of New Britain, CT, passed away on September 12, 2023. He was born on August 22, 1992, in New London, CT.
Jack is survived by his loving parents, mother, Spring Raymond; father, James William Riter; and grandmother, Linda O'Donnell; aunt, Sheena Steinkamp; uncle, Robert Wolf; aunt, Valerie Sousa; uncle, Mario Sousa; uncle, Joe Kovacs; aunt, Wendi Armstrong; uncle, David Raymond; uncle, Steven Riter; and aunt, Nadine Riter.
Jack was loved by his family. He and his cousin Kyle Clifton grew up like brothers and shared a special bond.
He was preceded in death by his grandfather, David O'Donnell; grandmother, Joan Riter; and grandfather, Earl Riter.
Jack lived in Preston, CT and attended North Stonington Christian Academy and later Preston schools as a child and attended Norwich Free Academy for high school. Jack went on to study, majoring in History at the University of Hartford, and later at Central CT State University.
Jack worked full time for Playa Bowls as a General Manager in both West Hartford and Avon. He had recently started working part time at Gran Gusto in West Hartford where he quickly demonstrated his hard work ethic and knowledge of the restaurant business.
Jack had a heart full of love, a dry and witty sense of humor. Jack was always reading; from the time he was a child you could find him with a book in his hand. He was a wealth of random knowledge. He had an amazing talent for writing. He loved to debate, to have intellectual conversations, and argue about politics. He loved to sing! He enjoyed skiing and playing disc golf. Jack was spontaneous, messy, an instigator and a good soul. He could talk and laugh with anyone. Jack was a complicated, beautiful, human being words cannot capture.
A ceremony to honor Jack's life will be held at Farrell Funeral Home, located at 110 Franklin Square, New Britain, CT, 06051, on Saturday, September 23, 2023, at 9:30 AM. A burial will follow for family and close friends at Duck River Cemetery, 12 McCurdy Rd., Old Lyme, CT 06371.
