Obituary of Lucy B. Donovan
Lucy B. Donovan - 100 - formerly of New Britain passed away on Monday, 5 December 2022 at the Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital in Boston. She was a lifelong resident of New Britain before moving to Westborough Massachusetts to be closer to family in 2020.
She was a proud graduate of CCSU obtaining both her Bachelors and Masters Degrees in Education, English and Psychology. She lovingly taught in the New Britain Public Schools as a 1st grade teacher at the Lincoln School for many years and then as a 6th grade English teacher at the Slade Middle School.
She volunteered at the Hospital for Special Care in New Britain for many years where she was selected as their Volunteer of the Year - an award she was so proud to receive. She was also a Patron of the NB Museum of American Art.
She was predeceased in death by her husband, John Donovan of New Britain - her parents - Concetto and Santa Berritta of New Britain - her brothers - Mickey and Tony Berritta of New Britain, and her son in law - David Blackerby of Westborough Massachusetts.
She is survived by her two daughters - Diane Blackerby of Westborough Massachusetts and Doreen Donovan Corkin of Weston Massachusetts - her five Grandchildren - Doreen Blackerby Hogan (John) of Waltham Massachusetts, Bryan Donovan Blackerby (Jessica) of Holliston Massachusetts, Andrew Corkin of California, Spencer Corkin of London England and John William Corkin of Hong Kong. She also leaves behind four Great Grandchildren - Lucy Hogan and Rose Hogan of Waltham Massachusetts and twins David Blackerby and Madison Blackerby of Holliston Massachusetts.
A Funeral Mass will be held in Lucy's honor on Monday, 9 January 2023 at 11:00am at St. Maurice Church, Wightman Road in New Britain. Burial will be private. A reception to follow. Farrell Funeral Home in New Britain is in charge of all arrangements.
Donations may be made in Lucy's memory to the Hospital for Special Care in New Britain.
