Gerald Apelgren passed away peacefully on June 2, 2021. He was the son of Edward and Myrtle (Feore) Apelgren. Born in New Britain on June 17, 1936, he was a 1954 graduate of New Britain High and he attended CCSC in New Britain. He was a Newington resident for over 70 years and always appreciated how wonderful and caring his neighbors were to him. He served in the U.S Army Reserves. He worked at Allstate Insurance Company in Farmington, CT for more than 40 years. He was an exceptionally private person who valued his friendship with a small circle of friends. Throughout his life, Jerry very much enjoyed his quiet time at his summer home in Old Saybrook, CT. He enjoyed discussing current events, and politics; and loved watching tennis matches and reading about and appreciating British history. In his later years, he enjoyed daily Mass on TV and watching EWTN programs.
Jerry is predeceased by his brother, Edward Apelgren, Jr., his sister, Lois (Apelgren) Bridgett and his brother-in-law Edward Bridgett. He leaves his niece, Marianne O’Brien and her husband William Mitchell of Newington; and two nephews, Patrick Bridgett and Daniel Bridgett; in addition, he leaves two great nephews; Sean O’Brien, his wife Lauren, and their children, Evan and Maia of Wendell, North Carolina, and Quinn O’Brien, his wife Katie and their children Nora and Rory of Wethersfield, CT. At Jerry’s request, there will be no calling hours.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Saint Mary Church in Newington on Monday, June 7, at 10:00 am.
