Jane Marie (Margelot) Hilbie, 88, died peacefully, March 7, 2021, surrounded by her family. Born in New Britain, where she lived most of her life, she was the daughter of the late Ernest and Ethel (Keeney) Margelot, Sr. She was the wife of the late Frank J. Hilbie. Jane started her career at Stanley then devoted her life to her family. She was also a crossing guard in New Britain for many years. A lifelong parishioner of St. John the Evangelist Church, Jane was awarded the St. Joseph Medal of Appreciation for her years of service. She was a Eucharistic Minister, a Religious Education teacher, president of the Ladies Guild and a regular Bingo volunteer. Jane’s favorite place was the cottage on the lake where she spent summers growing up with her brothers and cousins. Jane and Frank continued the summer tradition at the lake creating lasting memories with their children. “Nana” especially loved spending time with her grandchildren at the lake. Music was always an important part of her life beginning with Fife and Drum at St. Johns and at New Britain High School. She passed that love of music on to her family and always looked forward to the family concerts on Christmas Eve. Jane was always very active, an avid bowler and enjoyed a good card game. Jane leaves behind her children Linda and her husband Earle Armstrong, James and his wife Barbara Hilbie, Timothy and his wife Krista Hilbie, Susan Kus and her partner Robert Cote; her ten grandchildren Christopher and Kaitlin Armstrong, Anna and James Hilbie, Connor, Reid, Evan and Griffin Hilbie, Ashley and Kyle Kus; a brother Kenneth and his wife Judy Margelot of Watertown; a sister-in-law, Beatrice Margelot; many nieces, nephews and friends. She was predeceased by a brother, Ernest Margelot, Jr. and a sister-in-law Ruth Margelot. The family would like to extend a thank you to the team at Livewell Dementia Specialists in Plantsville for their excellent care and support.
