Obituary of Gertrude M. Carrubba

Gertrude M. Carrubba (Johnson), died unexpectedly on January 10, 2021. Born in New Britain, "Gert" made home with her husband and three sons in Kensington CT for over fifty years. "Gert" retired from New Britain General accounts receivable department in 2002. Subsequent to her retirement Gert taught catechism at St. Paul's Church and worked in the Berlin school system as a Teacher's Aide. Gert loved cooking, crocheting, working in the "antique shop", and above all, spending time with family and friends. Her love for her family was unmatched and was limitless in its boundaries. Gert leaves behind her husband of 64 years, Salvatore J. Carrubba Sr., of Kensington, her sons Joseph R. Carrubba of Florida, Anthony J and Salvatore F. Carrubba Jr., both of Berlin. In addition Gert leaves her "daughter-in-law" Mary Gotlibowski of Kensington and her three grandsons Joseph Anthony of New Britain, Ryan Nicholas of Meriden, Niko “Salvatore” Carrubba of New Britain and her great grandson Joseph Amante of Colorado. She also leaves behind her faithful canine "Lady". Gert is also survived by her brothers Nick Johnson of Nevada, Robert Johnson of Farmington, CT, James Johnson and his wife Maria of New Britain, and her sister Nancy Blake of Plainville, CT. On her husband’s side of the family, she is survived by Robert "Sam" Carrubba and his wife Bea, Rosie and Dell Menard and sister-in law Marie Carrubba. She is predeceased by her brother Alan Johnson of Arizona, her brother-in-law John Carrubba and her parents Robert Johnson & Josephine (Caginello) Johnson of Kensington, CT. Gert also leaves behind several nieces, nephews and very dear friends. A walk-through visitation will be held Thursday (1/14/2021) from 11:00 - 1:00PM followed by a Prayer Service at 1:00 PM at the Farrell Funeral Home 110 Franklin Sq. New Britain. Burial will follow Maple Cemetery, Berlin. A celebration of Gert's life will be held once the pandemic is over.
