Phyllis A. (Montenieri) Hills, 79, of Kensington, succumbed after a 10 year battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. Born in New Britain, the daughter of the late Sebastian and Victoria Montenieri, she lived most of her life in New Britain, moving to Kensington, recently. She retired after twenty years at the UCONN Heath Center in Facilities Management. Prior to that, Phyllis worked at New Britain Machine Co. A graduate of New Britain High School, class of 1959, she was a member of Delta Sigma Chi Sorority. She was a Girl Scout leader in New Britain, loved camping, especially at the Wolf’s Den and Odetah Camping Resort in Bozrah. Phyllis had a strong passion for creating. She loved creating crafts with her daughter Shari which they sold at craft shows throughout CT. She also ran a ceramic studio from her home in New Britain with her close friend Maureen Klopp. After retirement, Phyllis volunteered at the UCONN Health Center Gift Shop. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends playing games, cruising the Caribbean, trips to Atlantic City and vacations to Hampton Beach. She helped organize and participated in Relay For Life events of Berlin, with her daughter Shari for many years. Mrs. Hills is survived by her husband of 60 years George K. Hills, Jr; a daughter Shari and her husband Peter Garrison Sr. of East Berlin, two sons, George K. Hills III and his wife, Lynn of Marlborough ; and Sean Hills and his wife, Becky of Berlin; 5 grandchildren Kevin Garrison, Peter Garrison Jr. and Brian Garrison of East Berlin, Matthew Hills of Newington and Zachary Hills of Berlin; a sister Joyce and her husband Dave Trull of Wethersfield and many nieces , nephews and close friends. Friends and family are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial Wednesday (Dec. 30, 2020) at 10:00 AM at Divine Providence Parish (St. Joseph’s Church) 195 So. Main St. New Britain. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery, Rocky Hill. There are no calling hours. Due to the corona virus, everyone is asked to wear a mask and practice social distancing. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association 200 Executive Blvd S #4b, Southington, CT 06489 or to the American Cancer Society 111 Founders Plaza 2nd floor, East Hartford, CT 06108.
